In a quiet corner of England a former rabbi is living a remarkable life based on the ancient patriarchy of the old testament. Six years ago, God told the rabbi that he was to become a Hebrew King, and like a good patriarch, take multiple wives. Now he raises horses, runs four second-hand furniture shops in Brighton and Hove and lives with seven women who, while not legally his spouses, believe their union is sanctioned by God.

The Self-Made Man - USA
the self-made man

Is it ever rational to choose death? Is it ever good? For 77-year-old Bob Stern there is little doubt. A successful businessman, husband, and father, an exemplar of the "greatest generation" that built post-war America, Bob Stern believes that taking his own life in the face of serious — possibly terminal — illness is what an all-American hero should do. So he sits down on Independence Day, 2001, and videotapes his shocking proposal — for both his wife and son who sit just off-camera, and for his two absent daughters.

Tarnation - USA

TARNATION is thirty-one year old director Jonathan Caouette’s inspiring documentary self-portrait, chronicling his chaotic upbringing in a dysfunctional Texas family and the unexpected relationship that develops with his mentally-ill mother Renee.
The film begins with the early history of Caouette’s family. His grandparents, Adolph and Rosemary, were married in 1951 and experienced a middle-class life in a Houston suburb. But their idyllic early years quickly disintegrate after they opt to incarcerate their beauty-queen daughter Renee, who undergoes shock therapy after a suspected mental condition is diagnosed.
