Masterclass in Direction and Production of Creative Documentaries for International Markets
A 3 hour masterclass for Irish Documentary directors and producers with two acclaimed international filmmakers, Taggart Siegel ('The Real Dirt on Farmer John', USA) and John Appel ('There Goes My Heart', The Netherlands) who will be talking about international sales and marketing strategy for creative documentaries.
The aim of this Masterclass is to help Irish producers and directors focus on how their creative documentary projects can work for the international marketplace, and to enable them to take a project that they are developing and look at the possibilities for international sales and distribution at an early enough stage in the creative process.
The Guest Directors will present a case study of one of their film projects, in which they will analyse how the film evolved from idea, through development to financing, production and distribution. They will show how an awareness and understanding of the international documentary market for creative documentaries affects this process - specifically how international distribution and marketing issues were addressed. They will present a breakdown of the difficulties and challenges presented to them in this process, and show how they overcame these difficulties, and how it is possible to make creative documentaries that will appeal to international audiences without compromising their work.
