Born in Seville in 1967, Chema Rodríguez began travelling the world at the age of 17 and has visited more than 100 countries. He gained a reputation as a travel writer on account of his newspaper and radio features, as well as his books, and in 1996 he founded the magazine, Cartographica, which he also ran. He contributed features on Latin America to Spanish television, and later made multipart documentaries such as Sahel, la Frontera Herida in 1999, La Llamada de Africa in 2003 and Latidos in 2005. He also wrote the screenplay for the feature film, La Gran Final, which was screened in the Berlinale 2006 Special section of the festival.
